Managing Tags: Data Management → Tags
Last updated: July 21, 2026
The Tags tab in Data Management gives you a single place to see every tag on your account, how many shipments use it, and to clean up duplicates, renames, and unused tags. To learn how to add tags to a shipment in the first place, see How To Add/Edit Shipments Tags and Reference Numbers vs. Tags vs. Customers.
Note: Only account managers can rename, merge, or delete tags. Other users can view this page but won't see those actions.
Where to Configure
Log into Terminal49.
Click Data on the left navigation bar.
Go to the Tags tab.
This page lists every tag on the account, along with how many shipments use it and when it was first and last used.
Searching, Filtering, and Sorting
Search - type a tag name to filter the list.
Filter - switch between All, Unused (no shipments currently use it), and Duplicates (see below).
Sort - by Name, First Added, or Last Used, in either order.
Finding and Merging Duplicate Tags
Customers often end up with near-duplicate tags (for example, "Priority" and "priority"). Use Group Similar to find and clean these up.
Toggle Group Similar (or use the Duplicates filter).
Terminal49 groups tags it thinks are the same, based on how similar their names are.
Select the tags you want to combine, or use Select all in group.
Click Merge Selected.
Choose which tag to keep as the primary - Terminal49 recommends the one used on the most shipments.
Review the summary of which tag will be kept and which will be removed.
Check the confirmation box and click Confirm Merge.
Note: Merging moves every shipment from the removed tags onto the tag you kept. Confirm Merge cannot be undone.
Renaming a Tag
Click the edit icon next to a tag.
Enter the new name.
If the tag is currently in use, check the confirmation box that appears.
Click Save.
Note: If you rename a tag to match the name of an existing tag, Terminal49 combines them for you, the same as a merge.
Deleting a Tag
Click the delete icon next to a tag, or select multiple tags and click Delete Selected.
Confirm the deletion.
Note: A tag currently used on any shipment can't be deleted this way. Merge it into another tag, or remove it from those shipments first, then delete it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why can't I delete this tag?
It's still in use on at least one shipment. Remove it from those shipments, or merge it into another tag instead.
What does "Group Similar" actually compare?
It compares how similar tag names are, ignoring case and accents, so things like "Priority" and "priority" get grouped. It's a suggestion, not automatic - nothing changes until you confirm a merge.
I renamed a tag and it disappeared - what happened?
If the new name matched an existing tag, Terminal49 combined them automatically instead of creating a duplicate. Your shipments now use that existing tag.
